This week, two of our Bridge Academy-enrolled programs, Business and Culinary Arts, visited Southern Maine Community College to explore future learning opportunities at this gem of a school. We are grateful to the SMCC staff who opened their classrooms and helped organize such a meaningful experience, as well as our fantastic tour guide. Special thanks also go to the Westbrook Transportation Department and the Bridge Academy for their continued support in making visits like this possible. It was a wonderful trip, and we’re proud of our WRVC students for engaging so enthusiastically in this CTE-focused exploration! To learn more about the Bridge Academy program, please check out...

Program Collaboration is strongly encouraged at WRVC. Last week we got a delivery of rubber mulch for the nursery school playground, run by our Education Pathways program. Last week our first year Heavy Equipment Operation students unloaded the mulch, and today they spread it out and did a great job! Thank you to our HEO students and instructor, Kevin Henry, for taking on this important task, especially before the storm hits! The Education Pathway program and its nursery school students are especially grateful!

Our Education Pathways students chaperoned the nursery school students on a trip to WRVC's Fire Fighting Program! The Fire Fighting students got to show the nursery school students some of their equipment. As you can imagine, the fire truck was a huge hit! These two nursery school students look pretty excited -do you think they will be in WRVC's Fire Fighting program in a few years?

We were delighted to capture a heartwarming moment on campus this week: our Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Kim O’Donnell, reconnected with her former student, Paul. Years ago, Dr. O’Donnell was Paul’s elementary principal in the SAD 6 district, and seeing him now thriving in our Cybersecurity program was a proud and special moment for her.
Their reunion is a wonderful reminder of the lasting impact educators have, and the incredible pathways students can take to pursue their passions. We’re thrilled to have Paul in the program and grateful for the dedication and inspiration leaders like Dr. O’Donnell bring to our community.

WRVC has had a film crew on campus over the past several days, capturing footage for our new recruitment video, and we can’t wait to share the final product with future students. A huge thank-you to Emerson, Max, and Quinn for sharing their talents and helping to bring our story to life!

We all know the importance of clear communication when it comes to getting our hair cut! Students in our cosmetology program did an exercise in which one student was the leader and the other student, blindfolded, was the hands. The 'leader' directed the 'hands' on what to do using industry specific vocabulary to describe the actions that needed to be taken. This was a great activity for building vocabulary, strengthening communication and developing trust!

There was A LOT of excitement today at WRVC as Brew /N Business, our new cafe, opened its doors for the first time! Our Business and culinary arts program have been collaborating on a new business venture. After a lot of hard work, our students got to see it pay off! Dr. Lancia was one of our first customers!! People were happy with their drinks and snacks! The cafe started small today, with Tech II students, but will be expanding their hours to include Tech I! Congratulations and thank you to both of these programs! There is a lot of planning and preparation that goes into this kind of endeavor- we are proud of you!

WRVC recognizes good attendance as one of the most important habits for success — both in school and in the workplace. Being on time and present every day shows responsibility, reliability, and commitment — all key employability skills that future employers value! To celebrate students who consistently show up and give their best, WRVC will be having attendance raffles. Students with amazing attendance will have their name entered into a drawings to win prizes. As the first quarter ends, we had our first ever attendance raffle and are excited to share that we had MANY students whose names were entered. Thank you to all students who are showing up and working hard!
Congratulations to our raffle winners: Kieran Fongemie - Building Trades I, Zachary Pham -Business I, Cooper Whitehead - Auto Tech I, Isaac Morgan - Electricity II, Samuel Tirrell - Heavy Equipment Operations II, and Cash Beckner - Auto Tech II. The winners of this raffle each receive a coupon for a free drink from WRVC's new cafe, Brew N Business! Congratulations! We will be having more raffles moving forward!

A Proud Chef Moment!
Chef Hernandez is having her students work on many projects this year. One project includes is partnering with the Westbrook School Nutrition Program to showcase new menu items as well as having students create their own menu item by the end of the school year. Tuesday this group of students went down to the Westbrook High School cafeteria to promote a new menu item, FISH! As you can see in the photo, the dish was a hit!
Hannah Moore, part of WSD's nutrition program, shared that she was impressed with the culinary students. She loved their enthusiasm and gave them big props for their taste testing! Thanks for the opportunity Hannah!
We are excited to follow this project and see what WRVC student created dishes become part of WSD's menu!

WRVC’s Business students visited the University of Maine on Friday! In addition to exploring the campus, both Tech 1 and Tech 2 students had the opportunity to work with Jason Harkins, Dean of the Maine Business School, and Julia Van Steenberghe, Director of Student Success.
During the visit, students participated in an informational workshop and a hands-on activity focused on collaboration and problem-solving. Working in small groups, they developed standard operating procedures (SOPs), gaining valuable insight into both the challenges and the importance of creating clear, effective processes.
Thank you to our Business Instructor, Jana Boody Billings, for organizing this incredible opportunity. Thank you to Bridge Academy for supporting this event!

WRVC's Computer Science students had the pleasure of an interactive trip to UMaine on Friday. With the help of UMaine Computer Science freshman, Abby, and Professor Yifeng Zhu our students had a full day! From coding legos with Abby to walking through a hands on computer engineering demonstration, and getting to solder circuit boards our students learned a lot! Thank you to Mr. Fields and Mrs. O'Toole for supporting our students in this post-secondary opportunity. We also want to give a special thanks to Taylor Ward for organizing this trip! Thank you UMaine!
